What is a Sniffari?

The Sniffari is an enrichment opportunity for Lappies to sniff their way around a number of “sniff stations” on a course. There is no set course – rather, humans are encouraged to let their Lappies set their own path between the stations.

The “sniff stations” will have a range of unique smells that many dogs enjoy such as seaweed, coffee grounds, and a range of different types of animal poop.

Why is Sniffing Important?

Dogs live in a world of scent. Sniffing pee smells where other dogs have been is as interesting to them as checking social media feeds is to humans.

Sniffing all this information gives dogs a lot to think about keeping those canine brain cells working.

Allowing your dog to direct part of the FLCV Sniffari walk gives your dog a feeling of control.  Everyone, including dogs, benefits from being free to make choices about what they do.

How Long Does It Take?

Each Lappie will be assigned a 15 minute time slot to explore the course, and will share that slot with 2-3 other Lappies.

If you’d like to share your time slot with another Lappie in your family, or a friend’s Lappie, please make note of this when booking. Otherwise time slots will be randomly allocated.

Please note: if possible, we ask that each person only has one Lappie at a time, to allow for maximum sniffing.

What to Bring?

  • A long lead (3-5m) if you have one – a longer lead allows your Lappie more freedom and choice when selecting the next station
  • Treats – reward your Lappie when they find a scent, or when they come back to you (a great chance to practice recall!)
  • Poo bags – just in case
